Braveheart Freedom Fighters

Braveheart Freedom Fighters is a non-profit movement to provide communities and workplaces with meaningful events, psychosocial programs and resources that empower and equip people, while they are well, to stay well.

The aim is to create awareness of the underlying secondary psychosocial triggers which contribute to an individual's struggles in life and providing programs and resources that can better prevent them from succumbing to anxiety and depression.

Specifically, Braveheart is an initiative to help reduce the rise in men's mental health issues by providing education and support in key areas which affect the state of mind. Organisers behind the Braveheart men's events believe a proactive approach to improving health and wellbeing is needed to deal with issues before they grow into something bigger.

The initiative recognises that men have specific mental health issues as a result of attitudes, lifestyle behaviours and social and cultural norms that require a better informed and planned response.

To address the challenges, the organisers host quarterly Braveheart men's nights focusing on 4 key areas:

  • financial literacy (mastering your money);
  • health and nutrition;
  • importance of purpose; and
  • communication.

The events feature a guest speaker who specialises in a specific topic area, providing insight and different strategies and techniques that can help with the issues men face today.

While the Braveheart men's nights are a Melbourne eastern suburbs initiative, content and resources to help prevent the occurrence of mental health issues are available to all.
